There was always violence on the American frontier. As settlers were aware of the brutality of the Indian tribes, they clung together in groups as best they could. A town settlement drew a line between civilization and the fear of the tomahawk. The very idea of scalping or the sight of a bloody scalp left nightmares. Yes, the Indians possessed a method of execution that was swift and terrorizing. Much more so than the rifle, or gun.
