A Stroll through Grant Park
--
One could assume that the ancestors did not have an exciting life. However, they were quite busy socializing with relatives, friends and neighbors. The old swimming hole was popular, as well as boating. Indoor activities included “keeping up their letters” (translated….maintaining the fancy hand-writing and grammar with letters to friends and relatives). Too, during the agricultural period, mathematics, english, writing, geography and history were in the primer of the American field schools (est. 1600s-1900). The average farmer could build his own barns and silos, calculate distances, and do just about everything necessary to provide for his family.
